Anytime you go on vacation doing fun things with the family can be fun yet a little pricey. We fully understand that, and we thought that we would share with you a few free things that you can do while on vacation. Staying in one of our Beach Front vacation rentals can help you save money as you can fix meals at the house and take advantage of the free things to do around town. Let’s look at our top 5 things you can do for free while on vacation to Destin, Florida.
Jolee Island Nature
Jolee Island Nature Park is a hidden gem within Destin and
has some fun things that your family can enjoy. This park is 5 acres located on
an island and to enter the park you will have to go over a wooden bridge. As
you cross over the bridge you will be able to see a scenic salt marsh and even
get to see nature at it’s best. You may see different animals in the marsh and
take beautiful pictures too of the sunset. The park does offer the children a
pirate ship playground and it is surrounded by porch swings for the adults to
sit back and relax. And best of all it’s free to enjoy! Jolee Island Nature
Park has a picnic area for you and your family to enjoy a lunch among nature.
Don’t miss this amazing place next time you are on your vacation!
If you have ever been to the beach during the summer months
as a child, then you may remember going to the boardwalk often. Going to Destin
Harbor Boardwalk is like any other boardwalk out there, but you get to enjoy
several different things going on these during the week. Here you can walk
along the boardwalk all while you can enjoy the white sand and the Emerald
Coast waterfront. This is something that not many other beach towns can talk
about! Soak in the sun, fun, smells and adventure that you can enjoy on your
next vacation to Destin and going to spend a few hours at the boardwalk.
Day at the Beach
A fun free activity that you can do while on vacation is to head to the beach right outside of your Beach Front vacation rental. Here you and your family can enjoy a day or all week sitting on the beach in the white sand soaking up the rays. Plus, you can save money by being able to head back into your rental and have a nice lunch and then head back out onto the beach for more fun. Let the kids build sandcastles as you sit in a beach chair reading a nice book. The options are endless when you visit the beach in Destin, Florida.
Henderson Beach State Park
Another amazing park that you and your family can go explore is Henderson Beach State Park. Located along the Emerald Coast Parkway is where you will find this amazing park that has pristine white sand and gorgeous water views. One thing that you may be able to spot while you are taking a dip in the water are dolphins in the distance. There are plenty of things that you can do at the park like hiking along the shoreline on a nature trail or standing on top of the high dunes. This can be a fun day to spend at the park and it’s free of charge to enjoy there too.
Destin Commons is another great mention that we have to tell you all about. Located in the heart of Destin is where you’ll find this amazing shopping area but there is more to do than just shop. We understand that shopping isn’t a free thing to do, walking around and enjoying a few of the activities are free for you to do. Let the kids play in the splash pad that is there, walk into Bass Pro Shops to check out the giant fish tank or allow the kids to enjoy the playground. Parking is free and it’s a great way to get some shopping done before heading home while letting the kids enjoy the free activities too!
While there are many other things that you and your family can do in Destin for free, these are the few that we thought you’d like. If you haven’t made your reservations to come to Destin on vacation this year, now is the time. We can’t wait to see you and your family on your next adventure to the beautiful Emerald Coast this year!
Do you have a family vacation planned to Destin this year? If the answer is yes, then we understand that spending the week sitting on the beach soaking up the rays is just what you need. Staying in one of our Beachfront vacation rentals will keep you close to the beach but having the right things in your beach bag will allow you to enjoy your vacation. Let’s look at what we recommend you pack in your beach bag so you can have a fun family vacation to Destin.
Beach Bag Items
When you are on vacation making sure you have
packed everything before you leave home is essential. So be sure to pack a
towel for everyone in your family whether you are going to sit in the sun or
swim in the ocean. Bringing an extra towel with you is always a good idea
especially if you have little ones with you. Having a beach towel with a
different design can help keep track of whose towel is who’s. This can not only
help keep you organized but it can also help keep those meltdowns with the kids
under control with another sibling having their towel.
The sun in Florida is hot alone, so making sure
sunscreen is in your beach bag is a must. Use a sunscreen that is designed for
your beach activities such as waterproof, sport, high SPF, etc.).
Dermatologists suggests that you use a sunscreen with at least 30 SPF while you
are enjoying the sunshine. Be sure to Reapply throughout your day as we don’t
want you to ruin your vacation the very first day your here with a sunburn. If
you happen to get a little more sun than you expected be sure to pack a bottle
of Aloe Vera. To help cool the sunburn a little more, place the bottle of Aloe
in the fridge and it will help soothe the burn a little better.
Mesh Bag for the Sand Toys
Anytime you go on vacation with kids, you have
to bring a ton of sand toys with you. We understand bringing sand back with you
into your vacation rental is not necessary and can be quite a hassle. So, if
you pack a mesh bag such as a laundry bag or a bag specifically for beach toys
can help eliminate the mess. Just throw the sandy toys into the bag, give it a
good shake or two and leave the sand behind at the beach.
Water Resistant Phone Pouch or Plastic Bag
Between the water, sun and sand, the beach is
filled with many things that can damage your phone. Bringing a water-resistant
pouch to the beach can be a lifesaver for many. If you come on vacation and
realize you don’t have one, a sandwich bag or Ziploc bag will do the same as
the phone pouch. They will keep your phone protected from the elements at the
beach and you can even use it while it’s in the bag or pouch.
This is one item that you may not have thought about, but it is a must whenever you visit the beach. Whether you are staying in a vacation rental or you decided to drive your car to the beach access, sand will be all over you when you leave the beach. So, bringing baby powder in your beach bag will magically get the sand off of your body without irritation and leave a nice scent too. This is perfect for everyone in the family and not just the kids.
Hats, Sunglasses & SPF Shirts
Anytime you head down to the beach you will want to make sure you have your sunglasses, hat & an SPF shirt inside your beach bag. Protecting your eyes from the Ultraviolet rays is very important. Since you’re vacationing here in Destin you are closer to the equator meaning the sun is a lot hotter. Sunglasses and hat will keep your eyes safe and a hat will keep your face safe too. Be sure to pack one for everyone in the family. Another key item that you may want to have is an SPF shirt for your little ones. These are great for when you feel your kids are getting too much sun on their shoulders. They normally are about 50 SPF and are safe to wear in the sun, sand and the water. Be sure to pick one up before you get your vacation started!
There are many other things that you can pack into your beach bag, but these are the must have items for your next vacation. If you haven’t made your reservations for your next vacation, then check out our Beachfront vacation rentals today. We can’t wait for your family to come and vacation with us!
